I am enjoying the challenge of working small. It actually becomes necessary to slow down and be very careful about the size and location of every brush stroke.
Also, moving the eye into the distance with cooler, paler colors requires very small adjustments in a very limited space. The reef in the distance, at the very top of the painting, would be a hundred feet away from the large sunlit rock in reality, but on the canvas it’s less than three inches!
It was fun doing this scene, and am happy to have sold it almost immediately after posting it on Facebook. Now it’s time to get to work on the next one!
