I painted this scene of a southern California beach about a year ago, and though at the time I felt it was a good piece, I began to think something was missing. There was no real focus, nothing to grab the viewers’ eyes, nothing that told a story.
Then it hit me! This is the beach, this the ocean, where are the waves? So I painted in some small rolling breakers to give the painting some movement and focus. Now this is more like it!
